I really really enjoyed this one。I honestly don’t know much about Phoebe。 I was still super connected to her stories。 I was giggling through some points。I really enjoyed how she balanced social commentary and comedic moments。I would definitely recommend this one for anyone looking for something to make them laugh。(Still feels weird to rate this with stars but it’s a solid 4。5)。

I didn't finish this book。 It wasn't bad, but for some reason I just couldn't get into it。 I tried several times, but couldn't make it past the first few chapters。 What I did read was well written though so I think it would probably be a great read for others。 It is a book that I think would be a good addition to a library collection。。 I didn't finish this book。 It wasn't bad, but for some reason I just couldn't get into it。 I tried several times, but couldn't make it past the first few chapters。 What I did read was well written though so I think it would probably be a great read for others。 It is a book that I think would be a good addition to a library collection。。 。。。more

Phoebe’s third book has completely solidified her status as a literary QUEEN。 👑She’s an auto-buy author for me and I’m waiting with bated breath for my siiiigned copy to hit my mailbox soon。 In the meantime though, I am beyond thankful to @tinyrepbooks for sending me a digital copy so I could go ahead and dive right in。 Although quick confession - Not only do I sit on my bed on my outside clothes, but I’ve been known to snuggle under all the covers and NAP in them。 I have now realized I am trash Phoebe’s third book has completely solidified her status as a literary QUEEN。 👑She’s an auto-buy author for me and I’m waiting with bated breath for my siiiigned copy to hit my mailbox soon。 In the meantime though, I am beyond thankful to @tinyrepbooks for sending me a digital copy so I could go ahead and dive right in。 Although quick confession - Not only do I sit on my bed on my outside clothes, but I’ve been known to snuggle under all the covers and NAP in them。 I have now realized I am trash, thanks to Phoebe。 Again, this book, much like her first two, made me forget that we're not actual friends。 She writes in such a warm, funny, genuine way that it feels more like a conversation。Favorite chapters in this book include quarantining with her significant other, the one describing how she made her own publishing imprint (we bow down), the commoditization of the self-care industry, and especially the one about being child-free, which she seemingly wrote for my sole benefit。 🙋🏼‍♀️It wouldn't be a Phoebe Robinsinson book without amazing cultural references。 The Jodie Foster Nell one actually made me spit laugh。 Honorable mentions go to Betty Draper's washing machine and Usher's rainy videos。Okay, real talk。 Is this book as laugh-out-loud funny as her previous two books? No it is not。 However, there is more thoughtfulness, maturity (like I know anything about being mature🤦🏼‍♀️), and confidence in her writing and you can tell that she's really coming into her own。 Yes, mid-thirties! 👵🏻 She's at her best when she speaks her truth, especially when talking about racial issues in our country。 Her voice is NEEDED。Just go ahead and read everything she writes。 😍 。。。more

Buy 👏 this 👏 book! 👏 Phoebe is consistently hilarious, original and honest。 Her essays cover the creation of her up-and-coming empire (Tiny Reparations), quarantine with British Baekoff (her boyfriend’s nickname), traveling as a Black woman and more。 If you haven’t heard her podcasts or watched her shows, give this a try on audio for the full Dope Queen Pheebs experience。 I read an advanced ebook, but have preordered a physical copy (note that preorders count toward first-week sales, so they rea Buy 👏 this 👏 book! 👏 Phoebe is consistently hilarious, original and honest。 Her essays cover the creation of her up-and-coming empire (Tiny Reparations), quarantine with British Baekoff (her boyfriend’s nickname), traveling as a Black woman and more。 If you haven’t heard her podcasts or watched her shows, give this a try on audio for the full Dope Queen Pheebs experience。 I read an advanced ebook, but have preordered a physical copy (note that preorders count toward first-week sales, so they really help authors make bestseller lists!) and I will probably get it on audio as well when it’s available because I can imagine her cracking up telling some of these stories, just as I did reading them。 。。。more

I received this book as an advanced proof via a Goodreads giveaway。 This felt like an absolutely great gift。 I loved reading Phoebe Robinson’s You Can’t Touch My Hair, and this was fabulous as well。 We are living in a f*cked up world; this book helped me feel validated。 While I was also laughing my ass off。

PLEASE DON’T SIT ON MY BED IN YOUR OUTSIDE CLOTHES is the third collection of essays from actor, writer and comedian, Phoebe Robinson。 Robinson’s witty writing style, filled with all kinds of great abbreviations and hilarious one liners, is so conversational that you won’t want to put it down。 This collection hits on many topics from having to quarantining with someone you just moved in with, pandemic fatigue, how motherhood is romanticized in our culture, betting on yourself and being the boss, PLEASE DON’T SIT ON MY BED IN YOUR OUTSIDE CLOTHES is the third collection of essays from actor, writer and comedian, Phoebe Robinson。 Robinson’s witty writing style, filled with all kinds of great abbreviations and hilarious one liners, is so conversational that you won’t want to put it down。 This collection hits on many topics from having to quarantining with someone you just moved in with, pandemic fatigue, how motherhood is romanticized in our culture, betting on yourself and being the boss, interracial dating, performative allyship, and taking care of your mental health。 Robinson strikes a great balance between funny anecdotes and serious issues, and her unique perspective is something you won’t want to miss。I’ve always loved Phoebe Robinson as she’s super funny, wonderfully outspoken, and a fellow Clevelander like me! While I really enjoyed her second book (EVERYTHING’S TRASH, BUT IT’S OKAY), I liked this one even more。 This book is so reflective of the world and climate we are in right now, and hit on so many things that resonated with me。 I especially appreciated Robinson’s comments on mental health and reactions from non-Black individuals during the social unrest last summer sparked by the murder of George Floyd。 Every single essay was great, and I think it has a lot to offer for any reader。 Lastly, I highly recommend listening to the audiobook (for any of her books, honestly), as it is read by Robinson herself and has that extra layer of personality and comedic touch。 Great for readers who are looking for essays that are critical, thought provoking, and comedic all at the same time! 。。。more

Funny, wicked smart。 Compulsively readable。 She has the gift of being incisively critical while staying grounded and funny enough to come off as warm, enthusiastic, opinionated, but not uncharitable。Will definitely read her other books now。(nb: I read an advance reading copy given to me by the publisher)

Maureen

Loved from beginning to end。

Michelle

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC。First of all, Phoebe Robinson is a total dynamo with a vision。 She does it all! Writing, acting, producing。。。 it might be faster to list the things she can't do。 I especially enjoyed her podcast "2 Dope Queens。" This book is totally her voice and her style。 If you've enjoyed her other work, you will enjoy "Please Don't Sit on My Bed。。。"This collection of essays focuses on quarantine life, Black hair, having a British boyfriend, entrepreneurship, and (of course) Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC。First of all, Phoebe Robinson is a total dynamo with a vision。 She does it all! Thank you NetGalley or the ARC! I am a big Phoebe fan。 I loved her first book, loved her podcast, and liked her second book。 I liked this book just fine, but I really went in expecting more humour。

Reading Please Don't Sit on My Bed is like visiting with an old friend, catching up on what she experienced during quarantine; learning from her experience as a Black woman in America, running an empire and dating a Brit; and celebrating all of her hard work and amazing accomplishments - a new production company AND imprint! Amazing! She addresses important topics, while always making you laugh, as a good friend should。 Her abrevs (abbreviations) and footnotes are a bonus。 Looking forward to all Reading Please Don't Sit on My Bed is like visiting with an old friend, catching up on what she experienced during quarantine; learning from her experience as a Black woman in America, running an empire and dating a Brit; and celebrating all of her hard work and amazing accomplishments - a new production company AND imprint! Please Don’t Sit on My Bed in Your Outside Clothes is my latest and timely essay collection! We’ve all been through a trying time, which is why I wrote something to make you laugh until you pee a little, feel until you want to rage a little, and think until you go back to laughing a little。 That means telling you about the embarrassing accident that happened while quarantining with my boyfriend, the ways Black Lives Matter and performative allyship have taken center stage, my mom begrudgingly leaving her house so she could meet Michelle Obama, my decision to not have kids, and everything I’ve learned from running multiple companies (Pro tip: Always have a wig on standby for impromptu Zoom meetings)。No pressure, but clicking “buy” right now is a win-win: you get all the laughs I drummed up; and I can sell a lot of copies for my brand new imprint, Tiny Reparations Books, and keep shelling out for extra guac。Okay, some essays were funny and some essays were just 。。。 silly/inane/unrelatable to the point where I went to the next one。 I am on the fence over this one - I will recommend this book to certain friends, patrons, and book clubs - but it was just not that enjoyable to me。 (Hey, I said that I would be honest and sometimes that backfires。。but I did FREAKING LOVE THE COVER。。。very divalicious!)As always, I try to find a reason to not rate with stars as I simply adore emojis (outside of their incessant use by "🙏-ed Social Influencer Millennials/#BachelorNation survivors/Tik-Tok and YouTube Millionaires/snowflakes / literally-like-overusers etc。 ") on Instagram and Twitter。。。 Get a real job, people!) so let's give it 🛏🛏 。。。more

The highlights include her highs and lows of being a Black woman with a mini empire, and her experience of being Black in Bournemouth, UK, where someone asked to take her picture because she was the first black person they ever saw。 The constant abbreviations and hashtags made my head feel like it was going to explode。 “Antisosh,” “monogs,” “pleaszh,” “cultch (culture),” “Hey Cuo, quick quesh” (Cuomo), “locaysh, “invitaysh,” and the biggest offender of all: #sorryisaacnewtnewt 🤦🏻‍♀️

In her first book, I felt like I had found a nerdy best friend to talk Star Trek & U2 with but something has changed。 With every book, I am relating less to Phoebe。 All the hash tags & AFs in her second book turned be off but I thought I would give her another try。 Nope its over。 Its you Phoebe, not me。 I was provided an ARC of this book from Netgalley for my fair review。
